Di Bella Coffee is always looking for innovative ways to ensure that we provide ‘The Ultimate Coffee Experience’. Our ‘Crop to Cup’ approach ensures we provide consistent quality coffee to both our wholesale and retail customers. We are now taking our service standards even further by placing our focus on coffee machinery. We rigorously test the various coffee machines on the market to access their longevity, durability and functionality. Most importantly, we also evaluate how these machines effect the flavour profiles of our coffee blends. Our coffee machine technician, Steven Novello, travelled to Italy in May to visit both our machine suppliers Nuova Simonelli/Elektra and the head office of our coffee broker ARC. Here is an overview of Steve’s trip….
“I travelled to Tolentino, a small town about two hours north of Rome to visit Nuova Simonelli, one of the largest suppliers of coffee machines world-wide. The visit was successful and has further strengthened our relationship with Nuova Simonelli. We discussed the potential to modify some of the technology within their coffee machines to ensure that Di Bella Coffee’s flavour profiles are of the highest quality. The team at Nuova Simonelli also provided me with additional training on new technical developments of their coffee machines and grinders.
Next, I travelled north to Treviso, the home of Elektra s.r.l. The difference between Elektra and Nuova Simonelli lie within their company philosophy, mindset and approach to ‘hand built’ works of art. Their approach to design and manufacturing results in the production of a different style of espresso machine, with its focus on innovating technologies, art and design. While a sizeable company, Elektra maintain a family business feel and pride themselves in the production of hand-made espresso machinery.
After leaving Treviso I travelled to Milano to visit one of the world’s most highly regarded green bean suppliers, ARC. ARC were kind enough to share with me their purchasing systems and quality control mechanisms. I also had the privilege of cupping samples from a new crop that was purchased by ARC on behalf of Phillip Di Bella, to be shipped to Australia for us to manufacture. A strong relationship over many years between Di Bella Coffee and ARC has seen us introduce our ‘Crop to Cup’ philosophy. ‘Crop to Cup’ is all about ‘Direct Trade’ coffee between growers and manufacturers to ensure that we are continually guaranteed exceptional coffee for years to come. Under this system the farmer is also guaranteed to be paid maximum price for their product, workers are treated fairly and all of their crop is often sold in advance. This ensures that sustainable farming occurs now and well into the future.
All in all, the trip to Italy was full of learning and very successful in ensuring both the coffee machines we endorse and the coffee we source from all around the world is delivering ‘The Ultimate Coffee Experience’ for Di Bella Coffee customers”.
